About Arete

What makes Arete unique from other managers?

Three primary characteristics differentiate the investment process at Arete Asset Management from processes at many other investment management firms.

First, we apply fresh thinking to everything we do.  As an independent, emerging manager, we are not constrained by any of the legacies that affect many competing investment managers.

Second, we focus our research efforts on issues at the “margin.”  Many, if not most, research shops are organized to accumulate information.  Instead, we try to isolate the information that matters the most: those factors to which valuation is most sensitive and those which are most likely to be inefficiently discounted by the market.  By doing this, we believe we get more efficient production from our research resources.

Finally, we focus on good decision making.  We differentiate our decision making by having a long-term perspective, targeting a low turnover rate (20 - 40%), being patient, and being flexible.  While we employ a number of analytical and quantitative tools to substantiate our decisions, we also balance our work with a healthy dose of “common sense.”  In addition, we believe that by remaining independently owned, the decision maker for any product has the freedom to focus solely on making the best investment decisions for clients without being encumbered by other considerations.
