A better way to invest
Introduction
Hi, I'm Dave and welcome to my firm, Areté Asset Management.
I work with individuals and families who are focused more on investments than financial planning.

Leadership
Hi, I'm David Robertson, CFA, CEO and founder of Areté Asset Management.
I founded Areté because the more I have learned about the investment management business the more I have been disappointed with its capacity to actually help investors. I believe the way to do something better isn't so much an issue of engineering something more complicated as it is a matter of making more customer-friendly decisions on how to run the business. |
Most advisory firms have something useful to offer. What I do differently is to offer very professional investment management at a very fair price. I strive to provide the kinds of in-depth research, sophisticated modeling, and robust allocation framework that are typically available only to accredited investors. All of this is provided by way of separate accounts which provide a high level of security.
You will get all of these things for the same price (or lower) than what most advisors charge for a standard model portfolio of passive funds.
For my background and credentials, please visit my profile page here. If you would like to contact me, you can find the relevant information here.

What we do
Investment management
Areté focuses on investment strategy and management; we do not provide financial planning services. Managed assets will be custodied at Shareholders Service Group or another custodian of your choosing. Through all aspects of the relationship, you will always have access to me to ask questions or seek clarification.
The primary objective of Areté's investment strategy is to establish an allocation of assets that is robust enough to continue accumulating wealth through the entire spectrum of investment landscapes that can arise over a long investment horizon. This involves investing in exchange-traded funds (ETFs), mutual funds, stocks, ADRs, and other publicly traded securities.
It is designed to compare favorably with "balanced," "60/40," and "Target Date" funds common in many retirement programs. It does so by using active management to dynamically adjust weights and securities based on prospective return and diversification profiles. In short, when opportunities and risks change, so does our portfolio!

Fees
I'm a fee-only advisor which means you will only pay a percentage of the assets I manage. In addition, those payments are made after services are rendered. I designed my practice this way in order to minimize conflicts of interest and to be as transparent as possible.
The fee schedule is 1% on the minimum of $100,000 up to $1,000,000, and then scales down for larger amounts.
